Derek gained confidence in his abilities while working in the film industry, performing a number of different jobs (1st assistant director, cinematographer, grip, lighting assistant, location scout, editor & actor). With this experience, Derek decided to write, direct, produce and shoot his very first short film, Right in Front of Your Eyes. This film had local screenings and was entered into ten festivals.

 

After his first short film success, Derek attempted to tackle a feature film, The Icing, written by his childhood friend, David Meyers. Derek would need help with this large undertaking, so he decided to recruit his brother Kevin & childhood friend Mark Sartain as producers, assistant directors and location scouts. Kevin & Mark, plus many many more would become the Cheevies Film Productions crew (listed to the left). Once his team was assembled, they went on to finish The Icing, which premiered in April of 2014 to a packed house! 

 

Cheevies started production in June 2009 on their second feature, Murder for Pleasure, an ultra-gory and twisted horror film. Derek co-wrote, directed, shot & produced this flick. The release date is to be determined so keep an eye out!
